Have you ever wondered about the real art and science of decision-making? I wonder about it all the time. I wonder about it so much, I created eight laws for decision making. In case you want to know by what basis I created these laws, I will tell you. I happen to be a born again, bible believing Christian. So, woven into my philosophy for decision making, is my belief we are not alone and that there is a supreme being who, in my belief system, is Jesus Christ. The next pillar in my three-pillar foundation for my decision-making philosophy is my love for my country-the greatest country in the world, the United States of America. I include my love for my country because I am convinced that I live in the land of opportunity. And by living in the land of opportunity with a supreme being who loves me and guides my steps, I am able to exercise the kind of decision-making that can produce a life worth living. Finally, I have lived a life full of experiences and world travel due to my military career as an intelligence officer who reached the rank of lieutenant colonel in the US Army. This experience and the fact I have been married for nearly 24 years and have two wonderful sons, one now 21 and the other 14 years old, and have a master's degree in human resource management, make me to be a pretty candidate for creating laws for decision making.
Now that you know more about me, I do offer a bit of a disclaimer: these laws for decision-making are my own. They are in no way the ultimate authority for decision-making that will lead you to achieving your dreams if you apply them. As a matter of fact, I challenge each of you to create your own 'laws' for decision-making that best fits your own life. However for those of you who don't want to do that, then sure, give these eight laws a try: 1. Use discernment. 2. Envision your objectives and goals. 3. Consider the consequences of your decisions. 4. Seek information related to your goals and objectives. 5. Know your seasons of life: Where are you? Are you very young, young, middle-aged or an older person? This is important because it will affect the decision s you should make. 6. Ignore distractions in your life that prevent you from acting on or proceeding with making the right decisions in your life. 7. Be obedient. Make sure you obey God and obey the laws of the land. Decision-making should be in line with these strong forces: God's law and man's law. 8. Once you decide, after you apply my other seven laws, you must remain 'locked' onto your decision. In other words, my eight law is to never quit once you have made that decision. Stick to it!
Well, these are Vanessa's Eight Laws for Decision-Making. From time to time, I will 'dissect' each of these laws and how I arrived at these laws. It is very interesting. I have scriptures, stories and other examples to support the successful use individual and collective use of my eight laws. Stay tuned and make good decisions. Live the abundant life God so desperately wants you to live.
